Ethics Discussion: Is “Feminist” now a “dirty word”?

Is “Feminist” Still a Controversial Word?
At our recent ECSSV discussion on the history of feminism—spanning the first, second, and third waves—the word feminist itself became the main event.
Is “feminist” seen as a dirty word today? Depending on the study, roughly 40% to 60% of American women identify as feminists. But how should we interpret that number? Is it surprisingly high, or unexpectedly low?
We want to hear your perspective:
-
How do you feel about the word “feminist” today?
-
Do you self-identify as one, or does the term feel alienating or outdated?
-
Does the label attract you to a conversation, or make you want to avoid it?
Join us for an open, respectful conversation. Bring your personal experiences, stories, and insights! Please RSVP on Meetup.
