Ethics Discussion and Food
Wednesday, March 17, 7:30 pm
Private Home, Saratoga (request location)
Arthur Dobrin's book "Ethics for Everyone" is the source of topics for our discussions. This month, we'll discuss helping someone commit suicide. Is it moral?
We'll also be putting the final touches on our preparations for the Platform on March 21. Please come and be part of the group who will bring the Wednesday night discussion to the Sunday Plaform.
We serve soup at 6:30, dessert at 7:15 and the discussion starts at 7:30.
Please come.
Platform Sunday
Sunday, March 21, 4:00 pm
Meeting House, 1041 Morse Street, San Jose, 95126
The book "Ethics for Everyone" by Arthur Dobrin, an Ethical Culture Leader on Long Island, is the basis for a monthly discussion group and this Platform. Led by participants in the discussion group, this interactive Platform will explore some of the ethical issues we face in our daily lives. How do we think about ethics and how do we act when faced with these issues?
Join us after the Platform for soup and bread (a tradition of the Wednesday Ethics Discussion).
Video Night co-hosted with the Brights – Critical Thinking & Climbing Mount Everest
Wednesday, March 24 7:30 pm
Private Home, Saratoga (request location)
We're back to the theme of critical thinking and in this film, dealing with cognitive biases using the case study of the tragic Mount Everest climb in 1996 when 5 climbers died. What went wrong and how can we learn from this tragedy using critical thinking in a retrospective analysis? Join us for this exciting learning experience. Soup and bread will be served at 6:30 PM for those that can come early. Dessert at 7:15 PM. Please join us for one or both. The film begins at 7:30 PM sharp with time for discussion afterwards.
Daytime Ethics Discussion
Friday, April 2, 9:30 am
Country Gourmet Restaurant, 1314 South Mary Ave, Sunnyvale, CA 94087
Keeping Secrets is the topic this month. It's Chapter 12 in Dobrin's book "Ethics for Everyone" and we'll be reading the scenario at the beginning of the meeting so there's no need to read ahead of time. Dobrin's book is "designed to help you improve your moral IQ" and the exploration involves discussion, reflection, self-questioning, and comparison so that we might be "more sensitive to moral matters."
This daytime group works well for those who prefer daytime driving and want to discuss ethics and connect with others. Please join this nascent group as it gets started. Invite others! Bring your unique point of view to the group and add to the discussion.
Ethical Action Sunday
Sunday, April 4, 4:00 pm
Meeting House, 1041 Morse Street, San Jose, 95126
This Sunday we'll be contributing to our generous hosts at the Meeting House by doing a few housekeeping tasks at the building. We'll do what they would like done, which means a few cleaning tasks. We'll then share a salad potluck in the meadow in the back yard. Bring something to share that won't require electricity as we won't have access during the picnic. (The carpets will be wet after we clean them.)
Join us for a day of contributing to to our meeting location domestically.
